Get the Hell Off Me, Bloody Eagle! – FarCry 4 Reviewed

30 Jan

TitleBack when I reviewed FarCry 3, I came away from the experience very impressed overall. The Blood Dragon extension that came out shortly thereafter was inspired, so I had high hopes going into this game. Did it meet some pretty lofty expectations?

For the most part, yes. This is definitely a case of “if it aint broke” mentality in action, and, mostly, I’m OK with that… Continue reading

A Tale of Two Games: Assassin’s Creed 4 Reviewed

Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag

Assassins Creed 4: Black Flag

When I wrote my review for Assassin’s Creed 3, I mentioned that the single best aspect of the game was the naval combat, and stated that I’d love to play a game with an emphasis on that. So when Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was announced, I was overjoyed. Sail the high seas as a pirate! Parkour your way to riches and fame! It couldn’t possibly live up to my expectations. Could it? Destructible Servers: Battlefield 4 Reviewed

Battlefield4-title

It’s been a while since I’ve posted a game review. Sorry about that.

It’s not that I haven’t been playing new games – I have. Earlier this year, after a flurry of game reviews, I applied for an E3 press pass – naively, not realizing how large the blog has to be in order to even be considered. Unsurprisingly, I was denied in short order. I’ll admit, it took quite a bit of wind out of my reviewing sails. It forced me to realize how few views this site actually gets in the grand scheme of things, and how most of the time it really is just me talking to myself in here. So with that in mind, after much sulking and decaying of sanity…

Oh, quit whining and get on with the review already!

Right you are, Other Tom. Since it’s probably just you and me, and we’re both here, let’s get started.

Wait, what game is this again?

Civilization V: Brave New World Reviewed

It's a... well you get the idea.

It’s a… well you get the idea.

Hello. My name is Tom, and I’m a Civ addict.

*Hello, Tom*

I’ve been a civiliation addict since the first game came out some 20 years ago (God, I feel old). Those early, epic sessions where I’d start with the idea of only playing for an hour, only to realize too late that the sun had gone down – and then come back up. It’s the game series that taught me “one more turn” is the most evil phrase in existence.

So when a new Civilization game comes out, I pounce on it. When an expansion comes out, I’ll be there. It was only natural I’d grab the latest DLC for Civ V – Brave New World. I’ve actualy had this since it was released, but alas I don’t have the free time I used to (did I mention how old I feel?), and as you can probably tell I don’t do these reviews for a living. Hence the delayed review. How does this DLC fare? Continue reading

Yo Ho, Oh No, A Pirate’s Knife for Me – Far Cry 3 Reviewed

Trouble in paradise…

It’s been a while since I’ve played a shooter with a mouse and keyboard – at this point an Xbox controller just feels more comfortable for that type of game (at least to me).

But, sometimes you’ve got to leave your comfort zone – especially when you’ve just built a new gaming PC and want to see a game in all its ultra-settings glory. The sale on Steam didn’t hurt either, though after playing this I would have gladly paid full price. Continue reading

Blizzard’s really running out of expansion ideas…

I admit it – I sometimes watch those Major League Gaming tournaments (yes, that’s a thing). There’s something about the manic enthusiasm of the announcers and the cheers of the crowd while two people in sound-isolating booths throw pixelated armies at each other that I find utterly mesmerizing.
