Coming Soon: Zombie Beavers!

8 Feb

Yet another film in the “cutesy animal gnaws your face off” genre, this time with an undead twist.

If this keeps up, the world might soon be ready for my Ladybug Apocalypse script…

Relapsing – Birdemic 2: The Resurrection Reviewed

This can't end well...

Zombies. This can’t end well…

The hovering, dive bombing eagles are back – as are the exceptional acting and dialog you’ve come to expect from this franchise. Does it improve upon the original, or suffer from the sophomore slump?

I was recently able to catch the San Francisco premiere of Birdemic 2: The Resurrection, and it made me think about my review of the first movie. At the time, I said I liked the movie in many spots, but was ultimately disappointed with the inconsistency. I knew a sequel was coming, and hoped that an increased budget would help. I’m not sure the budget helped, but I definitely enjoyed the hell out of it this time around.

Those Eskimo spring breakers really made a mistake when they tossed out that old hat they found…

I heard about Snow Shark the day after I saw the b-movie awesomeness that was Super Shark for the first time. To say I was looking forward to this coming out would be a massive understatement.

Finally, release day arrived and I was at last able to watch this.

I really wish I was still waiting. Continue reading

Arachnoquake (pretty much minus the quake)

arachnoquake

It seems like there’s been a bit of a lapse in spider-related films.  I guess goblin sharks and mutated piranhas are slightly more terrifying than the common spider these days.  Arachnoquake attempts to make spiders scary once again.  It fails.

There’s a bit of an issue with the name of this film too – sure, there’s an earthquake that’s set before the story picks up, but er…that’s about it.  I wanted lava and giant gaping holes on the ground with massive hairy legs coming out.  Instead, we got essentially one crack in a road and a few tiny pink spiders – we all know nothing is more threatening than pink.  I mean, just look at Mr Blobby.  *shudders*

It Flies? Super Shark Reviewed

Fake Poster

He makes Jaws look like Flipper…

Rare is the movie that gets it all right. I don’t mean that in a “Silence of the Lambs”, “The Godfather”, or “Joe vs. the Volcano” way. I mean when a movie hits a certain level of bat-shit crazy, so bad it’s good, b-movie awesomeness and keeps things there for most of the film. And never takes itself too seriously – a fatal flaw many movies of this ilk suffer from. Mega Piranha comes to mind when I think of the short list of movies that have hit this “zone”. With Super Shark, I’m happy to say a new movie has made it to that list. Continue reading

We’re a Year Old – Time for a Contest

4 Jan

We’re over a year old now (well, the blog is – we are both well over the age of 1) and to celebrate we’re holding a competition of sorts – watch the video for more information.

Dodgy acting, weird hats, and a competition – don’t say we’re not good to you!

Shock and Terrible – Birdemic Reviewed

Sick bird

Someone has the bird flu…

I’d heard about this movie for a while now. How it was so horrendous it plummeted past unwatchable to enjoyable through the rip in space/time it created on premiere night. I just hadn’t had a chance to watch it and chime in until now.

Birdemic: Shock and Terror seems to have hit upon the perfect cult formula. First, model your writing and acting after The Room. Then aim for the same bar with creature effects – something on par with Mega Piranha. Finally, remove any and all budget.  As a bonus, make sure to thoroughly thrash any audio equipment before using.
